Symantec Ghost
Can Symantec Ghost do a bit by bit copy?
I need an imaging product that can do bit stream imaging and/or a bit by bit copy of hard drives. I currently use Symantec Ghost 11 and don’t see a way to make a backup that will capture all sectors including the ones without data. Ghost only seems to copy the sectors with data. Thanks
Try to find an older version of Ghost (perhaps Norton Ghost 2003). The older products were able to do a sector-by-sector, “format blind” copy.
(If my memory is accurate:) Somewhere around Symantec Ghost 10, they completely changed the product (through a corporate acquisition).
Another option would be to boot a Linux live CD (such as Ubuntu), and use the “dd” command from a terminal window.

Norton 360 Live update?
I am receiving the error message: “LiveUpdate Failed. Could not connect to the LiveUpdate Server.” To try and resolve this problem I have
1. Uninstalled and reinstalled Norton 360
2. Been to the website and followed the recommendations http://service1.symantec.com/support/norton360.nsf/docid/2006101619522675?OpenDocument&seg=hm&lg=en&ct=us
Neither of these have worked and I still get the same error message.
Any ideas?
Try something different, seriously. Norton, as you may have noticed, makes your computer SLOOOOOOWWWW.
It also isn’t very good at protecting.
I reccomend: searching for SYMNRT and using it to remove norton,
then downloading AVG or AVAST or Avira and using them, since they all are free and don’t slow you down.

Windows Logo Testing
When you’re installing a new piece of software on your computer, do you ever get an error message that says something about Windows Logo testing? The driver signing feature in Windows XP allows you to make sure that the drivers you are installing for any new program, device, etc. are actually compatible with Windows.
To do this, right click on the My Computer icon on your desktop and choose Properties. Click on the Hardware tab and then the Driver Signing button. You will see a little explanation of the Windows Logo testing at the top as well.
Next, you can choose how you want your computer to notify you about the testing. You can either have your computer ignore it and not notify you at all, you can choose to be warned with a prompt each time this comes into play or you can block it, which will tell your computer to never install an unsigned driver. Once you’ve made your choice, just check the button next to it and then click OK twice. From now on, your computer will obey your Windows Logo testing preferences and that makes everything just so much easier!
SBA GOVERNMENT WARNING
The U.S. Small Business Administration issued a scam alert today to small businesses, warning them not to respond to letters falsely claiming to have been sent by the SBA asking for bank account information in order to qualify them for federal tax rebates.
The fraudulent letters were sent out with what appears to be an SBA letterhead to small businesses across the country, advising recipients that they may be eligible for a tax rebate under the Economic Stimulus Act, and that SBA is assessing their eligibility for such a rebate. The letter asks the small business to provide the name of its bank and account number.
These letters have not been sent by or authorized by the SBA, and all small businesses are strongly advised not to respond to them.
FRAUD
Subscriber fraud is simply an offshoot of identity theft.
Someone steals your personal details and opens a cell phone account in your name, racking up huge bills that may land in your mailbox.
Stolen or lost phones
In the wrong hands they can be used to make unauthorized calls — one recent victim faced a $26,000 bill. They can also get your personal and contact details you may have stored in them.
Loss of your phone can be just a prelude for costly identity theft. If you do store personal information, make sure your cell phone is password protected.
Eavesdropping
Remember they can listen in to your calls and download your phone usage records. They can even track your phone to know where you are or where you have been at a particular time. Perfectly legal software can be secretly installed on someone else’s cell phone, then the crook — or concerned person can dial in and snoop.
They can listen to your phone calls, download copies of text messages and numbers dialled, or even just silently activate the phone and use its microphone to monitor any nearby sounds or conversations. Keep your cell phone password protected and don’t leave it laying around where some one can get at it.
Be on the safe side, always switch the phone fully off so it can’t be activated when confidentiality could be compromised.
Never throw away ATM receipts, credit statements, credit cards, or bank statements.
Never give your credit card number over the telephone unless you make the call.
Reconcile your bank account monthly and notify your bank of discrepancies immediately.
Keep a list of telephone numbers to call to report the loss or theft of your wallet, credit cards, etc.
Report unauthorized financial transactions to your bank, credit card Company, and the police as soon as you detect them.
Review a copy of your credit report at least once each year. Notify the credit bureau in writing of any questionable entries and follow through until they are explained or removed.
If your identity has been assumed, ask the credit bureau to print a statement to that effect in your credit report.
If you know of anyone who receives mail from credit card companies or banks in the names of others, report it to local or federal law enforcement authorities.
New Internet Attack Via Parking Tickets!
Here is a new attack that just popped up on the Web. Would you believe… parking tickets? Huh? How does that work?
The crook puts yellow fliers on cars, explaining that the cars had been ticketed for a violation. The flier lists a Web site where pictures of the violation are available.
But to see the pictures, you first have to download a toolbar. If you do, your computer will be infected with a Trojan called Undo, or Modder.
The Trojan throws pop-ups at you, claiming your PC is infected (which, ironically, it is). It urges you to buy the fake antivirus program “Antivirus 360″ to remove the infection.
The crooks are endlessly inventive, so be on guard for anything unusual, peculiar or bizarre. Too bad these guys don’t turn their efforts to more honest endeavours. They could probably make a nice living.
Quick Way To Make $250,ooo
Microsoft, Symantec and other shave put up this money to anyone that can nail the guys behind the Conflicker – Downadu worm. The worm has infected some 10 million PCs so far, and fear is there is more to come. Every day, the worm phones home for instructions to more than 250 servers around the world.
If one day the worm is instructed to download malware, it could create a large problem. Researchers are focusing on this daily update feature, trying to disrupt and thus disable the worm.
Keep all your security programs up to date. Run an antivirus scan every day. Be careful where you surf, and think before you click, please.

sorry again about the name

Hi Mike,
You should have included the word “NINJA” in the title.
Those charger plugs are easy to jam up. I bet that the problem comes less from your crashes, and more from plugging and unplugging the charger.
Is there an LED to indicate charging? If it is not coming on when you plug in the charger to the heli, gently wiggle the plug until it comes on.
If that does not do the trick, you could consider hacking things. Using your charger, or getting a different charger, and charging the battery directly. But this could cost more than the entire heli did.
Good luck!

How To Remove Norton Antivirus Completely
There are millions of software programs and more than 10,000 active malware, developed to infect these programs. Consequently, every day we find thousands of new infections. To avoid this problem, numerous anti-viruses are evolved.
Norton is one of such antivirus software which is considered a complete package of malware removal and scanning software.
There are many benefits of installing Norton Antivirus on PC but this software installation is linked up with many drawbacks too. Some of the negative features of installing Norton Antivirus are –
. This is a paid antivirus while nowadays you may find numbers of quality antivirus which are available for free.
. It is experienced that Norton Antivirus can have conflicts with other programs and hardware installed in PC.
. Norton antivirus also reduces PC speed.
Such negative features are the most prominent reasons which make users to remove Norton Antivirus from their PC. If you too are tempted to remove Norton Antivirus from your PC, follow the procedures –
. Go to Start Menu
. Click on Control Panel and then Double Click on ‘Add or Remove Programs’
. Find the Norton or Symantec A product you currently have installed, for example, Double Click on it.
. You will then be prompted to modify your current Norton Installation. Choose to “Remove All”
. Your program will be removed at this point. After removal, you will be prompted to reboot your computer. . Now remove Norton Antivirus using ‘Norton Removal Tool.’
This is the simple procedure that helps you to remove Norton Antivirus but there are moments when you would not be able to uninstall Norton Antivirus easily. In such situation, you can work in accordance with instructions which are mentioned below –
1) ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe to download the Norton removal tool. Now save the file on your Desktop

Norton 360 will not run, ad-aware finds multiple infections, what do i do?
Hi there,
I have a problem, a few weeks ago my boyfriend’s computer has slowed down considerably and 3 days ago it went insane. What is happening:
- HP installer keeps popping up
- something called Malware Alarm keeps appearing even when I uninstall it.
- there are files on it that were never installed.
- Some popups show up telling me to buy spyware and other stuff.
- IE opens webpages without being told to.
So I went and bought Norton 360. Installed it, but the program runs for a couple minutes and gives me “Norton 360 process has stopped running. Please Restart your computer.” after which message Norton does not work. I asked for help the symantec support but they keep telling me to use Norton Removal Tool and reinstall it. I did. 4 times. Same thing over again.
So I downloaded Ad-Aware, disconnected the LAN and scanned the computer. Got 1158 infections. Removed them. So this morning I run Ad-Aware again and I get 113 infections. HELP??
The FIRST thing to do is DISABLE System Restore.
If enabled, this allows malware to hide in the computer and re-install itself.
To disable it, RIGHT-click on “My Computer.” Select “Properties” then under the ‘System Restore’ tab, check ‘Turn off system restore’ IF not already checked.
The next most helpful things that would help you are to use ONLINE scanners from websites to remove any malware on your PC.
The current best online scanners I prefer are from Kaspersky antivirus and Bitdefender antivirus. Together, these 2 scanners will find ALL the bad stuff on your PC because they have the BEST detection rate.
First, use Kaspersky’s. (FYI: ALL these scans require you to agree to a EULA and install an activex control which is needed to perform the scan, so agree to them all.)
*NOTE: Some scanners ONLY work with IE or may not fully remove malware
http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.htm
There are MANY other online scanners you may like such as:
http://www.ewido.net/en/onlinescan/
http://www.housecall.trendmicro.com/
http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/
After using these, it’s ESSENTIAL to install at least 3 antispywares. Do NOT use more than 1 antiVIRUS or firewall as they conflict.
The best things in life are FREE, and great free software can be found @:
Superantispyware.com (Superantispyware FREE version)
lavasoft.com (Ad-aware)
emsisoft.com (A-squared FREE)
safer-networking.org (Spybot S&D)
javacoolsoftware.com (SpywareBlaster, EULAlyzer, & MRU-Blaster)
microsoft.com (Windows Defender)
avira.com (Avira AV)
activevirusshield.com (Basically Kaspersky for free)
siteadvisor.com (Tells you how safe websites are)
phoenixlabs.org (Blocks malware, government, and anti-p2p org’s)
zonealarm.com (Top Notch Firewall)
comodo.com (Another Top Notch firewall)
iobit.com (Advanced Windows Care)
Eusing.com (Registry cleaner)
ccleaner.com (Junk file cleaner)
Now if you can afford it, the best software to BUY are:
Spy Sweeper (VERY much worth the $$$)
Security Task Manager
Norton Internet Security
Kaspersky (BEST! =D )
Bitdefender (2nd BEst!)
F-secure (Same as Kaspersky)
Linkscanner (Blocks exploits in real time)
Advanced Uninstaller
If there’s ever ONE file you suspect is infected, you can try some single file scanners which use MULTIPLE engines to scan ONE file.
They are @ virusscan.jotti.org or virustotal.com
If you’re PC is squeaky clean, re-enable system restore because it IS good to have but we needed to shut it off to wipe out the malware.
Just RIGHT-click on “My Computer.” Select “Properties” then under the ‘System Restore’ tab, UN-check “Turn off system restore.”
*Another thing to consider is using another browser besides Internet Explorer. It has a lot of security holes,
making it less safe. I prefer Firefox from mozilla.org.
It’s easy to use, FAST, and has a lot of neat little add-ons you can toy around with. It is also safer from exploits than IE.*
As always, things will vary. I just hope the best for everybody. I’m bound to get some jealous thumbs-down but there’s only one way to find things out—try it!
Keep an UPDATED Antivirus, Antispyware, & firewall and things will be fine. And always browse wisely.
As a side note, please email me any/all websites you got the infection from or if any are popping up or hijacking you so I can help further security software’s measures.
Sometimes you may get a NEW and Unknown malware and I can submit it to be blacklisted/investigated to security companies.
Hope I was able to help. If I have, please consider returning & leaving a nice comment and
“Best Answer” to whomever you thinks deserves it…

I have viruses on my computer and I don’t know what to do?!?
So I have three trojan viruses on my computer and I have Norton Antivirus. It says that I have to manually remove them. It says to click on review and when I click on it, it takes me to this website: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2008-071823-3029-99&tabid=3
That site says to download the removal tool. I download it and after it scans through the computer, the viruses still says that I have to manually remove it. Help please? Thanks!
You must follow the instruction to remove the threat. Let me say it again you must follow the instructions to remove the threat.
Make sure you run the scan in safe mode.
Once you locate the files if Norton is unable to remove the threat. You can delete the files in Safe mode. This should be a warning to all who use Limewire and P2P file sharing. If you do this sort of stuff you can bet sooner or later you are going to get infected.
This Malware, after looking through the reverse engineering reports, creates it’s own “asf” based file in a temp folder, with the exact same name as your original music file then replaces your original file with it’s infected version. In the exact same place and name, so you don’t see any difference.
Then when you click on the file to play in Media Player or other players. a dialog box pops up, stating you need a codec downloed from a site. when in actual fact the downloads are more Malware.
