A customer service rep from Symantec said that they would send me a free copy of Norton Internet Security 2007
They asked me for my subscription number and everything. I even had to give the rep my address. Would they lie to me? They said it would come by September 10th. If they lied, that rep would be fired right? The rep said I was only eligible because my Norton Internet Security subscription was still valid. I went to the Symantec Chat Support room.
He said he was going to send me a full version CD.
As long as there support is located in India and you can’t speak with a tech rep in the US, I refuse to deal with either McAfee or Symantec they both have removed there tech’s from US shores.

a friend of mine is going to give me a copy of symantec endpoint protection for small business. I am not a business but he said that it would work very well for personal home use also. Is that true or would that be too much?

It’s not bad. It’s much lighter than most of Symantec’s home offerings, and it does have a good engine.
It is a bit limited however. It lacks useful spyware and adware protection, and has limited heuristic capabilities.

I highly recommend this. I’ve been using Norton antivirus products for many years. I prefer to other brands. I’ve used Norton 360 versions 1, 2, 3 and now 4. This version is great. It seems to use less resources than previous versions.

Secure, very light on system resources
I’ve been a Norton user for several years and lately I’ve been very pleased with each new release. I feel like Norton has a history of being a resource hog, but this version seems to go extremely light on the cpu and memory. It loads quickly and the user interface is very responsive. The virus definitions seem to be constantly updating in the background – not sure if this is a true update, or just a verification that the latest definitions are loaded.
I really like the Identity Safe that saves all of your logins so you don’t have to constantly enter them at each site you visit. You have to enter a password to activate it and you can set the frequency it requests it to suit your security needs.
The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was that there are many, many user settings. For power users who want to customize everything, this would be great, but it reminds me of the old Facebook privacy settings. There are lots of menus and submenus to go through.

As a technical writer, I have always had to worry about anti-virus software interferring with some of the programs I use. However, with the advances in technology, I figured I would give this latest version of Norton a try.
Surprise! No installation issues. Not a single one. Couldn’t believe it. (When was the last time that happened?) In addition, I made no setting changes: just accepted all the defaults at installation and it found a virus on my PC! Clicked a few buttons and the virus was gone.
This software isn’t intrusive and I was able to put it on all 3 of our PCs – which is a huge savings! Highly recommend this product.

Great product pretty much set it and let it go. I especially like the auto shutdown, (I turn off comp every night) feature when it is finished scanning. I do wish it had a boot scan feature like AVG.
I was using BitDefender 2010 and after switching to Norton, I realized how good BD was… However, Norton is just as good too… Just more dummy friendly. I like that part a lot!
Buy 360 4.0- stop vacillating over it and just drop some coin on this product. I think I paid 50$ some odd dollars.

Help with removal of spyware?
Recently when I was in the process of reinstalling Spybot Search and Destroy, I got some spyware on my computer, namely the program XP Antivirus 2008. I was successful in removing it, but apparently a few other things came bundled with it, namely spyware that redirects any links I click in a search engine, corrupts any downloads I make, and doesn’t allow me to go to certain websites. I have used an array of programs (Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-Aware, HijackThis, RougeFix, SmitfraudFix, AVG Antivirus, Symantec Antivirus, Windows Defender, and Ace Utilities registry cleaner) but to no avail. Does anyone know how I can remove this spyware?

Which antivirus software is better, Norton Protection Center or Live One Care?
I got Rogers yahoo high speed internet which came with symantec’s norton protection center which protects your computer in all domains cost if you buy at a store 450$ . I saw recently when i downloaded all the windows live softwares to keep my computer live that they offer a free Live One Care.

I would have to agree that Microsoft does not have a good reputation in the antivirus game and their firewall has never been great either. If you do not upgrade for the paid version of OneCare you cannot monitor outgoing connections on your firewall either.
I would say if it is a choice between the two.. go with Norton and make sure it’s a complete suite like Norton 360 that includes ALL types of protection.. then you merely need to ensure it is properly configured and kept completely up to date along with your windows updates. 45 bucks is a good deal. That’s less than a couple bucks a month for the security of your computer, info, identify info and peace of mind.
Any reliable vendor like mcafee, norton, kaspersky, etc.. that you invest in and work properly will serve you well if you use it with safe browsing habits and common sense. When you go cheap it usually comes out quite expensive in the end.
