Power Clean is Helpful in the Development of Strength & Speed.
Power cleans and other Olympic-style lifts can offer some athletes performance advantages over more common forms of weight lifting. This exercise is the best to gain the strength, speed and coordination to improve the Clean & Jerk technically.
While Olympic-style lifts have long been employed by traditional power athletes such as football players, sprinters, throwers, wrestlers and Strength & Conditioning Specialists are incorporating theses exercises into more and more sport-specific routines.
Lifts such as power cleans involve very high power outputs and high rates of force production, both of which can transfer to increased speed and explosiveness on the field or court. As Olympic-style lifts tend to be total body exercises, they increase neuromuscular co-ordination and that buzzword… core stability.
The most important goal of any strength training program, and indeed the exercises that form it, is specificity. More recently, power cleans seem to be first on the list when it comes to exercise selection by strength coaches. Remember, that the first step in designing a successful strength program for sport is a needs and movement analysis.
Power cleans involve mainly the extensor muscles of the hips, abdominals and trunk. Yet many sports for which they are recommended work predominantly the opposite – the hip flexor muscles. Other exercise choices, combined with the correct loading patterns for power development may be more suitable.
Even where exercises such as power cleans are relevant, they must be carefully planned into the overall program. Completing Olympic-style lifts all year round is not necessary for most athletes and they should always follow a phase of functional strength training – particularly in less experienced athletes. Even a short 6-8 week phase (most likely in the off/early pre-season) that incorporates power cleans and similar exercises can translate into significant improvements in competition for relevant sports.
How to Perform Power Cleans?
STARTING POSITION:
- Stand with feet slightly wider than hip width apart and toes pointing out slightly.
- Squat down and grasp bar with a closed, hock grip. Hands should be slightly wider than
shoulder width apart outside knees with elbows fully extended.
- Place bar about 1 inch (3cm) in front of shins and over balls of the feet.
- Back should be flat or slightly arched.
- Chest should be held up and out.
- Scapulae (shoulder blades) should be retracted.
- Head should be in a neutral position (in line with vertebral column and not tilted or rotated).
- Eyes should be focused straight ahead.
FIRST PULL PHASE:
- Lift bar from floor by forcefully extending hips and knees.
- Upper torso should maintain same angle (i.e. do not bend at the waist yet).
- Do not let hips rise before shoulders (this would have the effect of pushing the glutes in the air and
stretching the hamstrings).
- Keep elbows fully extended (straight), head in a neutral position and shoulders over the bar.
- As bar raises keep it as close to shins as possible.
TRANSITION PHASE:
- As bar passes knees, thrust hips forward and slightly re-flex knees to avoid locking them. Thighs
should be against bar.
- Keep back flat or slightly arched, elbows fully extended and head neutral.
SECOND PULL PHASE:
- Forcefully and quickly extend hips and knees and plantar-flex ankles (stand on toes).
- Keep bar as close to body as possible.
- Back should be flat, elbows pointing out to sides and head neutral.
- Keep shoulders over bar and elbows extended (arms straight) as long as possible.
- When lower body joints reach full extension rapidly shrug the shoulders upward, but do not let
elbows flex yet.
- As shoulders reach their highest elevation flex elbows to begin pulling body under bar.
- Continue to pull arms as high and as long as possible.
- Due to explosive nature of this phase torso is erect or slightly hyper-extended (arched back), head
is tilted back slightly and feet may lose contact with floor.
CATCHING / RECEIVING PHASE:
- After lower body has fully extended and bar reaches near maximal height, pull body under bar and
rotate arms around and under bar.
- Simultaneously, hips and knees flex into a quarter squat position.
- Once arms are under bar, lift elbows to position the upper arms parallel to floor. Rack the bar
across front of clavicles (collar bones) and anterior deltoids (front shoulder muscles).
- Catch bar with an erect, tight torso, neutral head position, flat feet.
- Stand up by extending hips and knees to a fully erect position.
DOWNWARD MOVEMENT PHASE:
- Lower bar by gradually reducing muscular tension of arms to allow a controlled descent of the bar
to the thighs.
- Simultaneously flex the hips and knees to cushion the impact of the bar on the thighs.
- Squat down with the elbows fully extended until the bar touches the floor.
Include power clean in your training program and enhance performance of your athletes in sports specially Olympic style weightlifting.

Lama RC Helicopter Worth Your Investment
In case you hadn’t noticed, 2005 is the year of the micro electric helicopter. Not to be left out of the fun, Hobby Lobby has tossed the E-Sky Co-Co Lama RC helicopter into the ring. The Lama RC helicopter is a dual rotor coaxial heli meant primarily for indoors. If you think you have seen this heli before, well, you kinda have.
The Co-Co Lama RC helicopter could not be more RTF RC helicopter. I pulled out the helicopter, popped in transmitter batteries and plugged in the flight battery. That was it! Everything you need is included in the box. There is nothing to assemble and there are no settings to adjust. Just plug and fly. There was plenty of charge on our Li-Poly battery so up it went!
The Co-Co Lama RC helicopter comes with a 72mHz 4-channel transmitter (so pin up if you are flying this at a regulated flying field!). The transmitter has a lighted display which indicates battery consumption. In addition, the transmitter can be converted from Mode 1 flying to Mode 2. Not bad for an inexpensive leisure craft.
The battery charger is a dual-use system. You can plug the charge box into your 12 volt ?gel cell? or just plug it into the wall. The 2-cell lithium polymer battery gives the Co-Co Lama RC helicopter plenty of power (we tested at 5,250 feet in Denver) and plenty of duration. Flight times will range from 5-9 minutes
The Co-Co Lama RC helicopter could not be easier in terms of setup and initial flight. In this respect, the Co-Co Lama RC helicopter performed just as well as the Megatech House-Fly. In terms of appearance, however, the Co-Co Lama RC helicopter lacked a bit of the detail and pizzaz of the House-Fly. The tail is stark white and the canopy sported a rough decal set. Unlike the House-Fly, the Co-Co Lama RC helicopter electronics are in full view through the canopy. The antenna is neatly coiled inside the canopy and we left it like that. We never experienced any interference or range issues. One of the features we really liked was the snap in? Battery tray that provided easy access.
I like the low price of the RC helicopter on online marketplace like Topons for either novices or experts, who are looking for indoor R/C entertainment. Expect from the Co-Co Lama RC helicopter what it was designed to deliver; namely, a stable platform for learning, but nothing aggressive. If you do, you will find the Co-Co Lama well worth the investment.

A Brand New Big Electric RC Helicopter : The Hurricane 550
Electric RC helicopters are becoming more and more popular everyday. However, one of their main criticisms is that they lack of big models. Most electric RC helicopters are of the 400 size, which are not even as big as .30 size nitro helicopters – the smallest kind. Electric RC helicopter pilots who wanted to fly bigger models had pretty much only one model to choose – the T-REX 600 which although performs extremely well, comes with a hefty price tag. Now, from the production line of GAUI, maker of many successful models such as the Zoom and the Shogun, comes another model to fill the void in the big electric helicopter market: the Hurricane 550. With a much lower price, the Hurricane 550 will undoubtedly provide pilots who want to try their hands on a big electric model helicopter with a promising alternative.
In The Box:
The Hurricane 550 comes as an ARF (almost ready to fly) kit and claims to be 95% pre-assembled from the factory. You still to install the radio receiver, servos, and the gyro – a task which usually takes at least an hour for beginners. Nevertheless, the main frame, the head set, and the tail come already assembled. The frame is made of a plastic composite material which is strong and durable. The way that each pieces are put together should is quite impressive. Although the model is pre-assembled, the manual provides a comprehensive instruction on how to completely rebuild it from scratch. This is very thoughtful as lacking these instructions would make extensive repairs a daunting task.
The canopy comes already pre-painted. For many people who painting is not their strongest trait, this canopy is great news. On the other hand, others who enjoy airbrushing their own helicopter may be less appreciative. On the quality side, it should be noted that the canopy is noticeably thinner than other models, making it more brittle-prone. However, its thinner canopy is a good weight-saver. This kit also includes a motor and a speed controller. The motor, the 800 KV outrunner, has been upgraded to generate less heat and consume less power.
As for the battery, the Hurricane draws its required 22.2 V from two 11.1V packs. Personally, I think this is a very smart way to implement its power system – unlike the T-Rex 600 which requires a whole new expensive battery pack.
The wooden blade that comes included with the kit is already sufficient. However, for modelers who would like something different, this model can take any blades that is suitable for a .32 size nitro helicopter; namely blades from the 470-550 size.
In Flight:
In flight the Hurricane 550 proves an able helicopter. Beginner to intermediate pilots should find that this model is great fun to fly, nimble and crisp. It is not as aggressive and the T-REX 600, but then again, you wouldn’t want to push this model to fly out the most demanding 3D maneuver as the swash plate is made of plastic. As for the flight time, this model can stay in the air for 8 minutes of ordinary flight and 5 minutes of 3D flight. All in all, although this model doesn’t come with the aluminum tails, carbon bodies, and the shiny accessories of the T-REX, it is definitely worth its price.

we’ve been married for 6 years and have a 5 yo daughter together, we’re both in our mid 20′s and used to have a really good relationship. he’s tests and reviews many rc airplanes and helicopters as a side job, he also gets to keep what he reviews… lately he’s just been spending time in the garage modifying them and in the backyard test flying them, he won’t spend time with me or our daughter… i don’t know if i should go to counseling or not, i don’t want to get a divorce over this but i’d like to repair the relationship, he won’t even sleep in the same bed with me anymore, is he cheating?
Guys pull in sometimes, it just happens. It doesn’t mean he’s cheating-it just means he’s thinking and is not a very good multitasker. It could be about ANYTHING-not necissarily about you or your relationship.
When a guy gets really focused on something, the other parts of his life can kind of float by him without much notice. Maybe he’s thinking about changing careers, or buying a new car, or shaving his beard, or about his parent’s health…don’t jump to conclusions you’ll just scare yourself.
Just ask him. Tell him it seems like he’s been occupied lately and you want to know if you can help or just listen while he bounces ideas off you. Even if he says no and keeps his thoughts to himself, at least HE realizes that YOU realize that he’s been kind of reclusive…and that thought may not have even occured to him before!
Edit: Don’t listen to people who tell you something’s wrong because he doesn’t want to have sex. Contrary to popular opinion, guys DO go through completely NORMAL periods where they just aren’t interested….just like women do. Plus again, some guys just aren’t good at multitasking, so if he gets too distracted he may just forget. It happens to women, why be surprized that it happens to men?

A person is never complete if they don’t have any hobby they are fanatic about. Following a hobby helps you spend your time and gives you something to enjoy in your spare time. If you’re trying out various hobbies now to find which suits you, try and give a hand with the radio controlled hobbies. Vehicle models like cars, helicopters, planes and much more models can be built. Most of the hobbyists start off with their hobby with helicopters. Dealing with helicopters is quite complicated unless you get the perfect kit which removes the complication. Once it is done and you fly the helicopter, you would congratulate yourself for doing this. It’s a whole new experience.
The most crucial thing in a flying a helicopter is to be good in controlling it. Never try flying a helicopter without knowing how to do it, as you are at the risk of banging it somewhere and hence wasting all the money you spent on it. Try to get a flight manual from any body you know that has got a RC helicopter. After going through the person’s manual and after knowing various terms and the uses of the many levers and knobs in the controller which are needed to fly your helicopter around in the air. If you feel you are thorough with the manuals, borrow someone’s helicopter for testing out your flying skills and see whether you can control your own. If test flight fails, get your cash ready.
