Can I use composite material for the top layer of a parking deck?
I’m looking to resurface my parking deck. I’ve been told of the benefits of composite decking (Trex, Weatherbest, etc.) but I don’t know if they are appropriate for a parking deck and the load of supporting a car. The joists are 24″ center to center. Thanks!

The support structure is massively strong and has some heavy duty steel braces and 5″ x 7″ joists. The home inspector actually marvelled at the strength of the parking deck as well as the other decks.
I have to ask, since no one else is….You have a parking deck with 24 OC? Your questions needs editing. If you are parking a car on a deck, with something not solid under it, and you have 24″ oc joists, you either have a go cart or some pretty strong supports. If you are talking about a structure adjacent to a parking spot (the latter being on solid ground), and you want composite rather than 5/4 wooden decking, then you probably will enjoy the composite, despite its increased costs. Last time I checked, 5/4 treated decking planks were about $5.89 for a ten foot length. Composites available at the big box stores were running about 2.3 times that per length. However, you get the strength of composite, weatherability, and no shrinkage or warping. Some composites can be “reversed” if they fade over time, you simply flip them to the underside and it is not faded.
Again, you say you are supporting the load of a car with 24″ oc joists. I have to say, you are either using some big bangers of joists and planking, or you live on the beach someplace where they do occasionally do this sort of thing. I guess I would not put a car over composite for decks, but maybe they make a really heavy duty composite plank that will withstand your weight load, if the your underpinnings are sturdy and not eroded.
Will be interested to see if someone else has some thoughts.
