Any systems, for example your ears, can detect sounds above a certain level, will hurt at some point and get damaged beyond that point
In a radio receiver, it is the same phenomenon
The amplifier is a class A amplifier, that is small signal
If the signal gets too large it will distort (exceeds class A operation)
And if way too large it will destroy the input transistor or device
This applies to audio and all amplifiers
