thermodynamics question?
If you had a bottle of coke (1kg) that you wanted to cool, while in an esky, from 35 degrees celsius to 7 degrees celsius, how much ice would you need if it’s original temp. was -5 degrees celsius?
*specific heat capacity of ice is 2.09
*specific heat capacity of water is 4.18
Lfus = 335 J/g (for water)
i’m having a bit of trouble because i have been trying to use Q= mc(temperature change) and Q=mL, but i don’t know the specific heat capacity of the cola. Is there some way i can answer this question without knowing this?

i’ve just assumed that the c of cola is the same as water and i can calculate the energy needed to change the cola’s temp, but i get stuck when trying to calculate the mass of the ice needed.

-1000g x 4.18 J/(gC) x (7 – 35) C = m x 2.09 J/(gC) x (0 + 5) +335J x m + m x 4.18 J/(gC) x (7-0)
*Solve for m.
m is the same for the ice and the water, because as heat is added to the ice to change it to water, the mass is not changed.
