kolkata is full of exotic locations which has become major tourist spots for visitors from all over India and abroad. kolkata has ancient and heritage buildings, prehistoric monuments, some of which are residuals of British Raj and many religious places which makes it unique of all other cities of West Bengal. Few popular spots are listed below:
Science City
The Science City of Kolkata is located in the eastern part of the city. It is newly added to the city’s long list of tourist attractions. Science City is the platform of scientific applications. It has separate sections that includes Space odyssey, Dynamotion, Life Science Corners, Science Park, Dinosaurs Complex, Toy Train & Ropeway and many others. It has a big auditorium known as Space Theater that can accommodate 2300 people at a time and looks like an inverted bowl. Another major attraction is the Musical fountain where water dance to the sound of music. Science City is ideal for tourist interested in the nuts and bolts of science.
Indian botanical garden
The Botanical garden, founded in 1786, is situated beside the Hooghly River in Shibpur. It is spread over 270 acres of land and provides home to 50,000 species of plants. According to the Botanical Survey of India there is a 250 year old Banyan tree, 98 ft tall and is the oldest botanic in the sub-continent. Botanical garden is an endeavor of the West Bengal state government to maintain an ecological balance of Kolkata and promote the floral wealth of India.
Nalban Boating Complex
Nalban Boating Complex is one of the popular picnic spots of Kolkata. Located at the Salt Lake City, it is an ideal tourist and weekend destination to spend time with your family. The main activity in the complex is boating. Go for an exclusive boating tour from wide ranges of boats such as deluxe sikara, paddle boats or hovercraft and explore the lake. Some boats have sitting arrangements for three to four people, some are self operated and some have captains to guide you around. Nalban is the paradise of the young hearts. The added attraction is the newly installed hovercraft. Those who are lover of sports can engage in water sports like para sailing, water scooter etc. It is a place to have fun as well as refresh your mind with your beloved in the natures lap.
Tipu sultan Mosque
The mosque is known as “Tipu Sultan Shahi Masjid” and located near Esplanade terminus at Dhartamtalla Street. This historical emblem is open to all people regardless of their religion. It is a monument of cultural heritage in Kolkata. this ancient mosque was constructed by the youngest son of Tipu Sultan, Prince Ghulam Mohammed in 1832.
Shaheed Minar
Shaheed Minar is also known as Ochterlony Monument. The monument was built in 1828 and situated on the garden outside Fort William, northern extreme of Maidan. This minar stands at an elevation of 48.16 meters above ground. It was initially named as Ochterlony Monument as then renamed as Shaheed Minar in the year 1969.
