Assigning an Intranet Page a DNS?
Hey Everyone,
I have been setting up an Intranet page for a company and I have the page and everything done and have setup Apache on a Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 Machine to host the page.
I can access the page by typing in http://10.5.1.2:1090 however I want to assign it a dynamic address http://intranet.company.local
How can I setup a route for this, remember I only want it to be accessed withing the local network?
Thanks,
93dt
Okay, whenever I put a new A-Record in it automatically makes it forward to the ISS Default Website (Controls Remote Web Workspace, Remote Mail, etc) instead of my Apache page..
This is the problem…
OK more details. I added the A-Record for 10.5.1.2 and when you type intranet.company.local it will bring up the ISS default webpage, now if I add ‘:1090′ to that it will bring up the intranet site, but the clients cant be typing :1090 all the time, is there any way to avoid this?
Check your PC on command prompt with ipconfig/all and note the DNS server. Add “A record” in the DNS which will be “intranet” (in ur case) and the ip 10.5.1.2. Take note the domain name company.local would depend on the AD or other domain setup you have in the network. Also if you need specific port or 1090 instead of 80 you could ask user to type that in the end or do port forwarding. Hope this helps.
