Not as ‘toy like’ as I was lead to believe…
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
My wife bought one of these little monsters as a Christmas present for me. I pulled it out of the box, ignored the instructions and flew it (flailed around about a foot and a half in the air actually) in the bedroom over the bed for about three minutes until the factory charge on the battery went flat. I then decided to read the instructions while the battery charged. The instructions provided are moderately ‘encrypted’ by loose translation, but answered a few questions.
I flew the machine a second time and had some issues with rotor torque or something causing it to spin without input from the remote. I made the adjustments listed in the instructions and the machine flew flawlessly after that. The potentiometer listed in the instructions is a small white surface mount type on the forward right hand portion of the circuit board (looking from the rear). It helped to snip away part of the plastic shield over the board (I assume a radio freq. shield and mirror for the disco l.e.d. that flashes during flight) to reach it and I had to remove a good deal of wax locking compound. A 1/2 turn down (right) fixed the torque spin problem and all was well in the world.
My piloting skills and lack of good judgment have lead to numerous crashes and near disasters. Free falls from seven to eight feet and impacts with every thing from tables and chairs to ceiling light fixtures have only yielded a bent skid and one blade change (blades are readily available and cheap about 6$ a set). I would recommend this ‘copter to anyone as a result. It is quite advanced beyond the tiny plastic tossers and has very sensitive controls. Outdoors it soars to great heights and with the additional ‘elbow room’ the sensitive controls make flying a little more free and easy.
There is a slight issue when you’re about half way through the battery charge – forward or backward control inputs will drop the main rotors power and require some ‘up’ input. This is not the normal loss of lift associated with tilt on a heli, but some apparent function of the tail rotor drawing juice from the mains. I had to ‘bend’ the tail rotor straight after a particularly tough landing so perhaps this is causing the additional draw and resulting issue.
If you’re looking for an ‘out of the box’ toy then look elsewhere – if you want something with more of a ‘hobby’ feel, super rugged design and power then this helicopter is for you. It flies outdoors very, very well due to it being a little heavier and more powerful. It requires a good deal of patience but you’ll be rewarded with months of enjoyment from a toy that is not quite as ‘toy like’ as you’d think.
I would complain about one tiny thing…the disco light. why? flashing lights I understand – but multicolored disco lights on a helicopter don’t make much sense…how about just nav lights?
Looking for parts for the Alloy Shark helicopter. Blades landing gear etc. Help?
Great Helicopter for Beginners
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I purchased this helicopter for my fiance for Christmas and he LOVES it! This helicopter in my opinion is very durable and worth every penny. It is advertised as an “indoor” helicopter but we have used it outside and if it isn’t too windy, it works great. I read past reviews where people have said negative things about this product and I couldn’t disagree with them more. We have slammed the helicopter into the wall many times, got it stuck and entagled in a palm tree (lol) and it still works like new. I would recommened this product to anyone and everyone, especially first timers.
great but has weak spots and not controlable

i droped this rc unit from about 8ft and its balance bar and tail support pipes broke, and it does not work when you want to go left or right this also spins uncontrulibly but this still this is a well made copter
Nice RC helicopter for beginner!!!

Now, I will say that I made the right decision for buying this helicopter. When I shop at Wal-Mart, I saw many small RC helicopters cost around $40 – $60, and the material are soft and easy to break. Compare with this flying-toy. Oh god, I would say it is a very durable and strong product (many pieces use iron). It has been crashed for numerous times when I first received this item.
My crash exp. For Indoor: hit my bed leg, chair, desk. Outdoor even madness: hit someone car, house’s corner, or 20 – 30 feet height straightly went down because ran out of the battery. After that, it still look nice, still functioning good.
However, two majors thing can’t make me satisfied are horsepower is weak and battery life is short.
First, let talk about the horsepower, the horsepower is good enough to make the helicopter go up and down, but not forward and backward. If the user is flying the circumstance with no absolute wind, or very tiny wind. This helicopter will work perfect well. However, if the user is flying this toy with little wind, it will be very hard to control it. because even though the user is keep controlling forward, it will either stop at the current point (not moving) or keep going backward all depend on where the wind goes.
Second, 1 hrs charging can only work around 5 – 7 minute. (I tried to charge 1 hr 30 min, it will have a better result)
Finally, for people who don’t have any flying experience, I would recommend this toy to u or who like helicopter. If u are like a expert flier. I would say go to find a better toy. But for me, $40 for this helicopter, it is very reasonable price.
This item is a huge joke — on those who buy it.

This item is very ruggedly built. Very strong motors, durable frame and blades. The basic structure exists for a great heli if it had decent controls.
However, the controls are so bad as to be a sad joke. I read in the manual about an adjustment to a “potentiometer on the circuit board.” There is NO potentiometer. Here is the quote;
“If the helicopter flies, rotating in the air without pulling control stick, then you can stop the fly, use screw driver to adjust the potentiometer on chopper circuit board lightly till it is steady. After adjust the trim button but yet revolving, you should be turn the trim to the center position, then adjust the hard adjustment till is stop revolving.”
I have no clue as to what they are saying. The “potentiometer” does not exist.
I am a very experienced RC Heli flyer. I own at least three (3) dozen helis — from basic to very sophisticated models. I had hoped to check the unit out and give it to my grandson for his birthday. I will do no such thing. I would be embarassed to have him know that I paid money for this item.
