Very nice beginner/intermediate indoor/outdoor RC helicopter
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Esky is one of the better Chinese RC manufacturer. This helicopter arrives fully assembled. The instruction manual is a lot more detailed and useful than typical Chinese work. All parts are installed properly and function just as they should. Overall, it is quite obvious why this is such a popular entry-level model for hobbyists.

Although the Lama V4 is billed as primarily an indoor flier, what that statement really means is that it is too small to withstand strong winds. My personal feeling is that its flight control is not precise enough for small to median size rooms, probably due to the co-axial design, which naturally emphasizes stability over maneuverability. I find flying in the backyard much more relaxing, since this model performs unpredictably in ground effect and really benefits from some altitude.

RC fliers crash often, so I had ordered spare batteries and blades with the helicopter. The batteries are from a generic brand, but they fit quite well in the compartment, which has extra room to accommodate most batteries in this class (50-60g, 800mAh, 7.4V LiPo). Unfortunately, after some fun flying sessions, I crashed the helicopter into a pile of stuff in a corner of a cluttered room. The stabilizer and its link simply disappeared. Now the helicopter is sitting on the floor waiting for the replacement parts to arrive. I should have bought the alloy upgrade for the inner shaft, which has the additional functionality of locking in the stabilizer.

Overall, this is a great RC helicopter that is easy to fly. The components are all hobby-grade as opposed to those cheap toys being advertised in general store like Air Hogs Reflex Helix - Colors May Vary. I highly recommend, however, that one goes to ebay (taking advantage of the popularity of this model) and looks up common spare parts. The parts you will need include main blades, batteries, stabilizers, links, screws, blade grips and possibly landing gears. They can add half the original price to the bill, but as crashing and repairing is an integral part of this hobby, having these replacement parts around save you time and spare you the frustration.
