I would like to set up a dynamic dns server so that my company can offer DDNS services for remote DVRs (Digital Video Recorders)- which are mainly Windows xp with some linux boxes. Is there a free linux program available to help set up a DDNS server for this purpose? Im looking for a server program very similiar to MintDNS (google it), but able to run on a linux system. Military Remote Control Helicopters

Military Remote Control Helicopters

How competitive are remote controlled vehicles?

One of the inventions of our time is remote controlled vehicles which
are a product of the advancement in technology. It is no doubt that
vehicles have made life better for man and ways to improve them to
become more efficient are encouraged. Remote controlled vehicles are
mobile devices that use radio control, infrared controller or a cable
that connects the vehicle to the control in order to control its
motion. They are also known as radio controlled devices. It should be
noted that though a remote controlled vehicle moves independently, its
movement is controlled externally by a person. Are remote controlled
vehicles a good invention? Are they competitive in this time? Well,
the answer is yes in both cases.
Remote controlled vehicles have many varied uses in our world today,
which include; in the military, as a recreational hobby and for
scientific purposes. As a recreational hobby, we find some remote
controlled vehicles that are toys are designed specifically for
children that in the beginning came in small sizes with a remote
control that the child used to control its motion, now they come in
bigger sizes and are quite popular with young children. There are also
hobbyists who collect radio controlled models of these cars. These
types of remote controlled vehicles are sophisticated and have varied
prices. They may include boats and planes. They are either off road or
on road and are found in many consumer shops.
In the scientific world remote controlled vehicles have been used in
space exploration and for working underwater. The remote controlled
vehicles used here are more sophisticated or technical in nature. Some
are electrically powered or use gas. Notably, most of the devices used
for orbiting our solar system and gathering data that has assisted in
understanding our universe better have been remote controlled devices.
This has led to big discoveries in this field.
In the military, remote controlled vehicles have also been a big help
when working in environments that are considered harsh. During the
World War 2 they were used to control teletanks during the winter war.
They have also been used experimentally in planes. The use of these
cars can also be seen in the police department specifically the bomb
squad, who have used remote controlled cars to detonate explosives.
Remote controlled vehicles have been a great help and will continue to
do so because of the many improvements that are being made on them as
technology advances.

Here’s the problem that is driving me nuts! When I try to bring it to a hover it starts to wobble. If I up the throttle (and collective pitch) It wobbles worse and comes crashing down! (So far I’ve only been able to get it about 4 ft off the ground. What could be causing this? I checked the blade tracking and it’s right on. the stock gyro is set to middle and there doesn’t seem to be anything bent. Help me please!!!!

Sound Improvement / Reduction

I bought this to improve the cab sound in my Dakota Quad Cab when I was installing new speakers (my wife blew out the old ones!!). It was very easy to work with and install. All I needed was a utility knife to cut the mat to the sizes I needed for the install. It will stay on after it is in place but it is forgiving on install. This means you can make adjustments with the piece you are working with before you roller it down. Using the roller tool (sold separately)was worth the price of admission. It definitely made install easier and was able to clear any air pockets as well as give excellent adhesion.

RESULTS: After the install there was a quick difference that could be heard. First thing you noticed is that when the doors are closed they sound more like a luxury car door closing. No more hollow sound, they sounded more solid. The sound in the cab is reduced and this is noticeable when no radio is on. Road noise has been reduced and it is a much nicer environment. As for the music…much nicer listening and clearer due to no competing noises from the road. Everyone who enters the vehicle likes it and knows there is a difference.

NOTES: I installed this on the inner door and the outer door. Some sites and installers will tell you this is unnecessary but if you are in the door why not. The thin sheet metal is all that is between you and the road. This pack covered two doors in the front. I bought two boxes to cover all four doors. It took one afternoon to install and it was complete. This is not a hard project at all. If you can get the door panels on and off you can install this product.

PRICE: I checked all over the internet and found that Amazon had the best price for this. From my experience this is likely to continue. Free shipping just solidified the deal. Check what you might need and compare the 4 sheet and 9 sheet boxes. Most of the time 2 4 sheet boxes will be cheaper per square inch and get the job done. Check prices and decide before you purchase.

OVERALL: I am very pleased with this product and would recommend it to anyone. It does what it is advertised to and is very easy to install. It will not make much difference if your vehicle has a lot of soundproofing already but if your car does not then this will do wonders.
My truck had some very small pieces of factory mat in the outer door metal already. They were just covered by the Dynamat. You may find the same thing during your install. They must think the truck needed some. I just took it up a notch.
worked wonderfully

I bought this to cover some areas that the original dynomatt buy didnt, and it performed much greater than i had ever expected it too.
It is OK if you have more money than sense.

It works well, I am surprised that someone else does not make it[cheaper]. It is a very low tech material. We used it in the doors of a friends car when speakers were replaced and spent over $100. I bought three cans of rubberized undercoat at Wally-World for about $5 per can and my doors were just as quiet. I guess it is just personal preference and economic priority, for me the extra $85 in the pocket was better. My friend, well he spends money like a drunken sailor…not to offend any drunken sailors out there.
Great

I just finished using Dynamat Xtreme to do my entire 2006 Acura RSX Type S. It works great, road noise is reduced and the sound system is able to create better sound at lower volumes. I used two Dynamat Xtreme bulk kits and a door kit (90 square feet). My only compliant is the price and the door kit does not contain enough material to do two door right (outer skin and interior metal). When you read the instruction you’ll see that door should be enough to two doors. I was only about the outer skin of the doors from this kit. I would suggest just using the bulk kits which are a better price per square foot. Don’t be fooled by copymat’s I’ve this product and others, hands down Dynamat is better.
Really does work!

I was for sure skeptical of this product doing what its box says it does (i.e. the acoustical dampening chart on box). But, after having installed it on all 4 of my doors and on the driver’s side floor, I have to give it 2 thumbs up. It didn’t convert my Mitsubishi into a Mercedes, but it did REALLY reduce the amount of outside noise coming in. I was yesterday sitting in my car in the soccer parking lot listening to music and could hear absolutely nothing from the outside. People walked right by talking, wind blowing, other cars, etc. and I heard nothing. I only noticed this because it was noticeable. Installation was absolutely no problem either. This stuff is very similar to tar paper, but its design keeps it completely unmessy. Good product.

RC helicopter replacement parts after a crash?

okay, i recently bought a fixed pitch rc helicopter (E-flite Blade CP). Its still in the shipping process but a lot of ppl say a crash is unavoidable when ure learning, so i was thinking about buying some spare parts in advance but i am not sure on what to get. What do you think are some good replacement parts to have on stand-by? rotor blades? small screws? main rotor head? im not sure, but any suggestions are appreciated.
thanks

Just watched some flight video of that heli on youtube, looks nice by the way and congratulations.

It looks like all you may need are a set or two of replacement blades. It’s light weight enough so that a crash while learning will only damage blades…if that. Most RC Heli’s today have a blade set up that prevents blade damage, but it never hurts to have a spare set.

Good luck, and have fun.

The Resurrection of the African-American Family

The Resurrection of the African-American Family

I admit that I had deep reservations about writing this essay.  I had doubts, uncertainties, and insecurities.  Would I be able to clearly and concisely capture my strong opinions and emotions about a sensitive subject and its relevance in history?  After much deliberation, I decided I had no choice but address this topic that merited my attention. Ultimately, my subject chose me as a conduit to reveal both unpleasant truths (past and present) and hope for the future.

Writing about issues of race is challenging.  As much as our society has evolved, most people are uncomfortable with the realities of slavery in America and its aftermath.  I suspect this is one of the reasons J. H. Plumb neglected to make any references to the black family in America or its unique history in his essay, “The Dying Family” (Plumb 6-10).  Hundreds of years of slavery killed the original African family unit. However, contrary to Plumb’s assertions regarding the fragmenting of family life in general, the black American family is reinventing itself and becoming more cohesive.

It is impossible to consider the plight and future of the black American family without first considering family life in sub-Saharan Africa before slavery spread throughout the Western world.  Nathan Irvin Huggins, a professor of history at Columbia University states, “the traditional family in Africa extended itself beyond the nuclear group, linking in mutual obligation much of the village itself” (Huggins 162).  An African village thrived when its families fulfilled specific needs of the collective group.  There was little sense of individualism or autonomy.  Each family in a village benefited from the success of other families in the village.  Likewise, if the village suffered economic or social hardship, all of its families were affected.  For instance, if there was a severe drought, the entire village was susceptible to famine.  Therefore, the families of the village cooperated with one another to secure food from other sources.  If a family stored food in preparation of a natural disaster, it was shared with the other village families without expectation of payment in return.  The village was the extension of family.  This type of organization worked because every family made contributions to benefit their neighbors.  Within individual families, the hierarchical arrangement meant that each family member fulfilled an important, valuable role.  Ownership of property was collective.  This concept is difficult to fathom because we live in a world where the entrepreneurial spirit is prized and individual success is valued.  However, traditional family life in Africa was successful within a very different social dynamic, and had been successful for centuries, perhaps millenniums, in Africa (Huggins 162).  Unfortunately, the slave trade permanently disrupted this way of life for about ten million Africans sold into slavery (Blassingame 5).

The Western concept of ownership could not have been fathomed by most Africans.  Africans sold into slavery became property.  Lack of ownership of their very bodies made traditional family life impossible.  They were no longer members of a collective village.  In fact, the family unit itself was destroyed.  John W. Blassingame, former professor of history at Yale University, asserts “the most brutal aspect of slavery was the separation of families” (Blassingame 173).  Some owners of slaves prohibited marriage between slaves.  If slaves were permitted to marry, they faced the reality that they would not be able to care for and raise their own children.  They lived in constant fear of separation from their offspring; the weight of this real threat no doubt haunted them.  A miserable condition of the absence of a cohesive, permanent family lasted “between the sixteenth and the mid-nineteenth century” for enslaved Americans (Blassingame 5).  But would the destruction of the traditional African family permanently disable blacks in America from creating a new family model?  American history reveals that they eventually were able to reestablish family life.

Reestablishment of the black family structure did not happen immediately when slavery became illegal and blacks were granted freedom.  Sometimes, newly freed blacks traveled hundreds of miles to reunite their families and search for relatives.  Usually, their searches were fruitless, leaving them with no choice but to begin new lives, forever separated from relatives (Huggins 239-240).  Huggins even argues that “the loss of communality” continued to have disastrous consequences on the black family over seven decades into the twentieth-century (Huggins 246).  This account of black history is painful, but it is a story that would not be hopeless.

In recent years, historians have observed the resilience of the black family unit despite media depictions of desperation.  Stephanie Coontz, an historical author at Evergreen State College, notes that “young African Americans receive less material aid from their families and contribute more income to their families than do white youth” (Coontz 189).  Coontz also relates other positive trends among black families in comparison to their white counterparts.  For example, African-American women have made “the largest income gains relative to men of any economic group” (Coontz 254).  Black high school seniors are setting the trend for the decline in drug use in schools. Black husbands do more to support their wives in housework and childcare than white husbands (Coontz 254).  This is just a truncated list of reasons why one can be optimistic about the future of the black family.  There is more powerful evidence than these facts.

During the early 1980′s, blacks discovered a new way to “redefine and rebuild the family social system,” according to M.H. Zoll, a national free-lance journalist (Zoll).  They began a tradition of annual family reunions.  Extended families began to meet during summers over three-day weekends. Reconnection with family guided those who spearheaded the reunions.  Now, every year, thousands of American black families unite in celebration of their kinship and heritage.  Ancient African traditions are “revitalized” (Zoll).  The youngest members of families are exposed to the history, stories, and legends passed down from the oldest family members.  Together, extended families are able to trace their family roots using census data, property records, and real estate deeds through access of public records now available on government information internet sites (Zoll).  Hard work and ingenuity have resulted in the organization of sustainable reunions, often resulting in complex webs of extended families linked across the country.

Despite this marvelous progress, it would be inaccurate to depict family life among all black Americans as being utopian.  Single parenthood, unemployment, and poor housing are still problems that adversely affect maintaining a nuclear family among blacks.  These same issues are faced, not only by blacks, but by other poverty stricken ethnic groups.  These are not racial problems. They are socio-economic problems that plague modern society as a whole (Coontz 253).
