my new climbing rope?
i bought a new mammut matterhorn 10.2 dynamic rope and i have used it 5 or 6 times and i have also have turned it around each time i repelled and now its starting to fray? its just a little fuzzy around some parts and i dont know if thats normal or what?
The first answer is right on all counts (I used to teach climbing and sold Mammut ropes at an outfitters). The biggest problem with the sheath getting fuzzed up is that it makes it harder to inspect the rope for cuts and wear. You might want to watch how you are abrading the rope surface. Are you using a brake bar, figure 8 or some other device for descending? Make sure the surface of the device isn’t rough or scratched. And you should be using scraps of carpet over any cliff edge so the rock doesn’t abrade the rope as it slips over.
Incidentally, for both of you, the correct name for the descending activity is “to rappel” or “rappelling”. (pronounced like “rap” in rap music). Like many climbing terms it originally comes from French.
“Repel” (pronounced “ree-pell”) means to turn someone or something away from you or to digust someone. I don’t think you want to be telling people you “repel” — they are likely to tell you to shower more often or use mouthwash!

You need to register your public IP address, not your private one. dynDNS will not accept an address in the private ranges.
