Car Crash Severity and Changes in Speed Rate
The Federal Highway Administration reports evidence that crash risk increases for vehicles traveling much faster or slower than average and is lowest near the average speed of traffic. The occurrence of a large number of crashes involving turning maneuver partly explains the increased risk for motorists traveling slower than average and confirms the importance of safety programs involving turn lanes, access control, grade separation, and other measures to reduce conflicts resulting from large differences in travel speeds. When the consequences of crashes are taken into account, the risk of being involved in an injury crash is lowest for vehicles that travel near the median speed or slower and increases exponentially for motorists traveling much faster. One of the major concerns in studies is the travel speed before the crash. Emerging technology used in mayday, vehicle tracking, and adaptive speed control systems provide the opportunity to accurately and continuously capture travel speed. This technology should be applied in improving our understanding of the relationship between speed, speed variation, and safety.
When a crash occurs, its severity depends on the change in speed of the vehicle at impact. The fatality risk increases with the change in speed to the fourth power. International research indicates the change in injury crashes will be twice the percentage change in speed squared, and fatal crashes will be four times the percentage change in speed. These relationships are based mainly on speed limit and speed changes on high-speed roads. More research is needed to assess their applicability to low-speed urban roads.
In general, changing speed limits on low and moderate speed roads appears to have little or no effect on speed and thus little or no effect on crashes. This suggests that drivers travel at speeds they feel are reasonable and safe for the road and traffic regardless of the posted limit. However, on freeways and other high-speed roads, speed limit increases generally lead to higher speeds and crashes. The change in speed is roughly one-fourth the change in speed limit. Results from international studies suggest that for every 1 mi/h change in speed, injury accidents will change by 5 percent (3 percent for every 1km/h). However there is limited evidence that suggests the net effect of speed limits may be positive on a system wide basis. More research is needed to evaluate the net safety effect of speed limit changes.
Most of the speed related crashes involve speed too fast for conditions. This would suggest that variable speed limits that adjust with traffic and environmental conditions could provide potential benefits.
Despite the large number of references concerning traffic calming, very few reports include results of a systematic evaluation. In many cases traffic volumes as well as speed are reduced. As a result of the traffic diversion, crashes may be migrating to other roads. More research is needed to assess the system wide impacts and permit comparisons to be made among individual as well as combinations of traffic calming measures

I need to set up a simple VPN for the office and a few outside computers. Dynamic IPs both sides. I know I will need something like dynamicdns, but hope for a bit more in the way of help????

I have a VPN capable router. I should say I can be set up for VPN “passthrough”. I have also looked on some sites for information, but I think I will need to correct my Dynamic IP on the Server side before having luck creating the setup.
first of all do you have a device that allows you do handle VPN? Like a cisco pix? you need to purchase one if you want to handle vpn securely. Also you will have to have a vpn client on the laptops or pc’s to connect. when you have the device you need to create an account for the connections on the pix and configure them on the client too. The cisco pix should come with client software. if not its easy to find. check this link for more info

I’m looking to buy an RC Airplane, what do you recommend?
My brother is interested in a RC Airplane for christmas. He has never flown one before, but is a fast learner. What type of plane would be good for him at a reasonable cost. I am looking for something that is good for a beginner but would also be fun for him after he learns the basics (something not to slow and something that he can do tricks with). Some model ideas and reasons for recommendations would be helpful. Thank you

I got a slow stick last year for Christmas and it is great for beginners in fact flight instructors told me that it is what to get, that’s what allot of people start out with also the only reason they call it a slow stick is because it can go really slow like 10 mph which is great for landing, this is just about the easiest airplane to land I think, but they can also go about 35 mph that’s plenty fast. you cant do that many tricks but you can hover fly upside down do stall turns and loops but you learn the basics which is good i learned other tricks with my second airplane if you really want ailerons make sure that its a trainer airplane because if it isn’t i’m 99% sure that he will crash it, eventually i wanted an airplane with ailerons so i got one and i’m glad i didn’t get it before because i would have crashed it in fact i almost did so unless you can get a trainer airplane with ailerons i wouldn’t get one. when i got my airplane i kept crashing it but finally i had a flight instructor get it in the air for me then handed me the controls and didn’t crash it the way to identify a trainer is to look at the mane wing if it points up like a stretch v its a trainer hope this helps.

I was reading its bottle, and it really stresses the following statement: DO NOT LEAVE ON FOR MORE THAN 10 MINUTES.
Why is this? What will happen…
Chemical burns. It depends on what kind of skin you’re applying it to, though. For example, the skin on the legs is a lot stronger than the skin on the face, so can probably stand a little bit longer of a treatment. But from my own experience, I once left it on my face for more than 10 minutes, closer to 15 or 20, and had huge red welts where I had applied it for about two weeks. When my brother was bored and decided to NAIR his chest without reading the directions, he had a similar response to the product. What we experienced wasn’t too bad, but I’m sure if you leave it on for a great amount of time, it can probably do some damage.

Step 3:Make sure you get a new adapter with the proper wall plug. Some AC adapters will have a standard two-prong plug, while others will have three. Look at the wall outlet you intend on using the most and see what kind of plug you need. You can plug a two-pronged adapter into a three-pronged wall outlet, but you can’t plug a three-pronged adapter into a two-pronged wall outlet.
